How to Select Your Quilt
Share
Fashion is so personal. From cuts to colors to patterns, each of my clients has unique preferences when selecting a quilt for their custom quilted jacket.
It can be difficult to envision the end product, particularly when unfamiliar with the symmetry of a quilt. Below I have outlined my tips in what to asses when determining what quilt it best for you.
- Quilted Jacket Style - understanding the shape and length of your jacket is paramount when determining which quilts we should use. For shorter jackets, we want a smaller repeatable pattern. For larger, the jacket has the opportunity to share more of a story. Blocks, applique and Patterns can be larger as there is more area to display.
- Quilt Bulk - The thickness of the quilt is important for two reasons. The first being purpose. For cold climates a client may look for a warmer quilt as their base, vs. warmer climates. The second being how the jacket will drape. The bulkier the quilt the more structured and chunkier the jacket will look.
- Pattern - Every quilt pattern has a different meaning behind it. As we go back decades and centuries, many quilt blocks and patterns were created with intention. From wedding styles, to lonestars to humility blocks, their is purpose behind the artist's creation. The history can be meaningful to some, while others simply appreciate specific aesthetics. Understanding what you value can be important when we curate your quilt.
- Color - What I love most about quilts is the diversity of color palettes used. Just as we have preferences in colors we wear, the creators also had preferences in the colors they used. We can go as bold and vibrant as you want, to subdued. Knowing your color priorities is significant in case it could take a bit longer to curate a quilt ie black and completely neutral quilts are rare to come by and could take more time or money to acquire.
